Percy Jackson Series

 This is another of my favorite book series. Yes, I know that this is another selection of children's literature. However, I read this series as a teenager and I loved it. I love Greek mythology. I find it absolutely fascinating. This series was my cup of tea since I loved Greek mythology beforehand. I feel like Rick Riordan did a wonderful job with encompassing a majority of Greek mythology in 5 books and also making it understandable for children. This series follows a demi god named Percy Jackson. In case you do not know what in the world a demi god is I will be gladly to tell you. It is a person who is half god and half human. Percy's dad is Poseidon, god of the sea, and his mother is human. The series explains this as well as many different aspects of Greek mythology. 

 The books follow the adventures of Percy and his two friends, Annabeth (who is also a demi god), and Grover (who is a satyr). Annabeth's mother is Athena, god of battle strategies and wisdom. Grover is a satyr which is a half goat creature in Greek mythology.

Percy tries to make his own destiny instead of having fate decide it. 

 There are two movies based off these books. The movies are on the first two books. They do not do the books justice whatsoever. They are good, don't get me wrong. However, they take out the main component that makes the series continue. I am not going to tell you what that is because that will ruin the book. If you guys have read these books let me know! I would love to know what your thoughts are on the book series. For all you out there who have not read it, I recommend it even though it is a children's literature selection. I especially recommend it if you are a Greek mythology buff like me. Happy reading!

Harry Potter Series

The Harry Potter Series

The first book I am going to review on is the Harry Potter series. I chose this series first because it is my personal favorite book series. I highly recommend this book series if you have not read these books. I did not read the whole series until I was an adult. I have seen some of the movies and read the first two books before I actually read the whole series. I had no idea what I was missing out on. J.K Rowling does an excellent job on capturing the reader's attention and transporting them into a whole new world when they begin to read this series. I know as a 20 year old reading these books for the first time I could not put the books down because of J.K.'s writing style and her ability to make a whole new world of magic and wonder in just seven books.

 Throughout the series you follow the many adventures of the three main characters Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. Every time I thought I knew how one of the books ended, Rowling had a whole other idea. The plot twists throughout the book leave the readers hungry for more. These books left me spell bound (no pun intended)and that is hard for a book to do to me. For those of you out there who have only seen the movies I truly feel sorry for you. The movies are great don't get me wrong. However they only scratch the surface of the books. 

 You do not have to be a child to read these books and get pure enjoyment out of them even though it is considered a children's literature. Like I said before, I was 20 years old when I first read all of the books. I had no idea that when I started this series that I would fall in love with the wizarding world that is in Harry Potter. If you are looking for a new series to read and you have not read this one, I highly recommend this series for you. If you decide to read them, let me know!
